The Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board (MSLETB) Commis Chef Team recently participated in the Catex Exhibition in the RDS Dublin and walked away with an impressive haul of medals.

Led by Team Captain Rory Culkin, the MSLETB team competed in Ireland’s largest food service and hospitality event and emerged with six silver medals and one gold medal. The apprentices who took part were Dylan Dunne from The Ellison Hotel in Castlebar, Jared Taaffe from Molly Fulton’s in Sligo, John Webster from House of Plates in Castlebar, and Daniel Witkowski from The Cot and Cobble in Ballina.

Dylan Dunne won a Silver Medal in the Junior Pork competition and a Bronze Medal in the Junior Chicken competition. Jared Taaffe won a Silver Medal in the National Commis Chef Apprentice competition and a Gold Medal in the Hot Souffle Pudding competition. Daniel Witkowksi won a Silver Medal in the Junior Duck competition, while John Webster won a Silver Medal in the Riso Gallo Risotto competition.

The MSLETB Commis Chef Programme has a long-standing reputation for providing exceptional training and mentorship to aspiring chefs. The ongoing success of the programme is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the MSLETB team, as well as the apprentices themselves.

The next intake of Commis Chef apprentices is scheduled for late April, and those interested are encouraged to visit www.apprenticeship.ie or contact Sligo Training Centre by email at [email protected] or by phone at 071 915 9500 for further information.

The MSLETB is proud of the achievements of its Commis Chef Team, and congratulates the apprentices and Rory Culkin on their exceptional performance at the Catex Exhibition.
