Drumshanbo Vocational School is a co-educational, multi-denominational school with a current enrolment of 384 students. Established in 1964 by Co Leitrim VEC, it has a proud tradition of excellence in the provision of post-primary education for the area. The school is situated on an elevated site in Drumshanbo, overlooking the southern tip of Lough Allen, with Sliabh An Iarainn and the Arigna mountains as the backdrop.
Drumshanbo Vocational School has a comprehensive range of subjects available, both academic and practical and offers a choice of two modern European languages to Leaving Certificate level – French and Spanish. The close-knit nature of the school community and the formal supportive structures that are in place allow young people to develop at a pace appropriate to their own needs.
The moral and spiritual aspects of students’ development are fostered through a school ethos based on respect for the dignity of each individual and a cross-curricular pastoral care programme, with Religious Education provided for all years, up to and including the Senior Cycle.
In addition to providing second level education, Drumshanbo Vocational School has a well established and highly innovative Post Leaving Certificate Programme. Indeed, many of the students opt to do one of these courses after the Leaving Certificate and may defer entry to university or other third-level institutions for the year.
