Youthreach Ballinrobe, in partnership with Mayo, Sligo, and Leitrim Education and Training Board (MSLETB), has marked its 35th anniversary with the unveiling of a striking new wall mural at its Further Education Centre12.

The vibrant artwork, which adorns the centre’s exterior, serves as a powerful testament to Youthreach’s enduring impact on young people’s lives across Mayo since its inception in 19883. The mural not only beautifies the building but also symbolises the creativity and potential of the programme’s participants. The unveiling ceremony, which took place at the Centre, was followed by a tree-planting ceremony at the front of the building, symbolising the growth and prosperity of the Youthreach programme over the past three decades.

Minister of State with responsibility for Local Government and Planning, Alan Dillon, TD, officiated the unveiling, praising the creativity and talent of the students involved in the mural’s design and execution.

“This mural is a powerful representation of the talent, imagination, and dedication of Youthreach students,” said Minister Dillon. “It is a privilege to celebrate 35 years of Youthreach in Mayo, and I commend everyone involved in making this event a success. Youthreach continues to be a vital part of our communities, providing young people with the education and skills they need for a bright future.”

Tom Grady, Chief Executive of MSLETB, also expressed his satisfaction in the ongoing success of Youthreach programmes across the region.

“The mural is an important symbol of the positive impact Youthreach has on young people’s lives. This 35th-anniversary celebration is a testament to the incredible work done by both the students and staff of Youthreach Ballinrobe, and I look forward to seeing the continued growth of the programme and centre in the years to come.”

The event was attended by a wide range of community stakeholders, including learners, parents, public representatives, and staff members from Youthreach and MSLETB. Local community representatives and organisations also participated in the celebration, reflecting the broad support Youthreach has enjoyed throughout its 35 years in Mayo.

Youthreach Ballinrobe continues to play a pivotal role in providing young people with opportunities to enhance their educational, personal, and vocational skills.
