Sligo Community Training Centre (CTC) operating under the Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board (MSLETB) hosted its annual Certification Day on Thursday, October 16th, celebrating the hard work, progress, and achievements of learners over the past year. The ceremony, held at the Centre, recognised a wide range of accomplishments across QQI, ICDL, Gaisce, and other awards.

The event was attended by learners, families, staff, and special guests Dan Scannell, Board Member of Sligo CTC, and Anthony Quinn, Area Training Manager with MSLETB Training Centre, Sligo. The audience also heard stories from past and present learners, highlighting the personal journeys and successes that make Sligo CTC such a valued part of the community.

In total, certificates were presented to:

  • 9 learners achieving QQI Level 3 Major Awards in Employability Skills
  • 3 learners achieving QQI Level 4 Major Awards in General Learning
  • 15 QQI Component Certificates
  • 5 ICDL Certificates
  • 15 Gaisce Awards

Courses completed included Hairdressing, Computers, Sports & Recreation, and Catering Programmes — all designed to equip learners with practical skills and confidence for further education, training, or employment.

A highlight of the day was the presentation of the Melly Daly Personal Achievement Awards, named in honour of a cherished colleague and friend. This year’s recipients, Chloe Flynn and Emmet Finan, were recognised for their outstanding personal growth, resilience, and positive contribution to the Centre community.

Other notable achievements included:

  • 4 learners completing the Young Social Innovators Ignite Community Course, producing a brochure titled “Your Next Steps” to help young people understand PAYE, avoid emergency tax, and learn about employee rights.
  • 4 learners achieving City & Guilds Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) Fundamental Awareness Certificates.
  • 3 learners receiving Garda Achievement Awards for their positive community engagement.
