Gaelchultúr, in partnership with Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board (MSLETB), is proud to announce fully funded course places on the Certificate in Professional Irish at levels 3, 4, 5, and 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) under their Skills for Work and Skills to Advance schemes starting in April 2025.

This initiative marks a significant development following the successful piloting of the programme in spring 2024, providing essential Irish language skills to the business community.

Accredited by QQI, these fully funded courses are designed to empower individuals to advance their proficiency in Irish, a language increasingly recognised as a vital asset in the commercial world. This unique opportunity allows individuals to earn a recognised qualification in Irish, enhancing their career prospects and business opportunities.

Recent findings from a collaborative study conducted by Gaelchultúr and Amárach Research highlight the growing commercial value of the Irish language1. The study reveals that 59% of respondents would like to see businesses communicating through Irish, while 73% believe that businesses using Irish are local or Irish-owned.

Additionally, 41% are more likely to purchase from businesses that use Irish in their marketing, and 26% would even pay more for products or services that incorporate the language. This signifies a shift in consumer behaviour as buyers are becoming increasingly selective about the brands and products they invest in. These findings also demonstrate that businesses can gain a competitive edge by using the Irish language in their marketing, communication and branding initiatives.

‘We are excited to expand our partnership with MSLETB. By offering fully funded places on our Certificate in Professional Irish courses, we are investing in the future of the language and equipping learners with the skills that are increasingly demanded in the commercial sector’, explains Gaelchultúr’s CEO Darren Ó Rodaigh. This initiative is a game changer for those wishing to leverage their cultural heritage as a professional asset.’

Echoing Ó Rodaigh’s sentiment, MSLETB’s Director of Further Education and Training Peter Egan added: ‘The study’s insights affirm that the Irish language is not just a cultural asset, but a dynamic tool for modern business communication. Our collaboration with Gaelchultúr is a forward-thinking approach to equipping individuals with skills that can help them advance in today’s competitive landscape.’

Whether aiming to develop language skills or expand professional horizons, these courses provide a valuable pathway to success. Courses will begin 8 and 9 April 2025 and those looking to avail of this opportunity can register their interest today and take the next step towards achieving their Irish language goals. ·
